Who we are

About us

Open Foundation West Africa (OFWA) is a non profit organization that seeks to extend the activities and reach of the open movement in the West African subregion, through open education and education programs, digitizing open resources, preserving cultural and heritage items for educational purposes and promoting contents about the West African Sub-region and its existent countries for educational purposes.

OFWA started operations in 2015 but was officially Incorporated and registered in 2016. OFWA has taken part in some international photo contest projects like Wiki Loves Monuments and continental advocacy campaigns such as #FASTAfrica, organized by Web We Want and A4AI to promote fast, affordable, safe and transparent internet in Africa. OFWA is the local affiliate for Creative Commons and an affiliate of the WIkimedia Movement. OFWA annually host Open con satelites across Ghana and maintains a close partnerships with Mozilla and Open Street Maps.

Creating the awareness of all the available open resources, enticing its use by many and sharing the benefits of contributing towards the future of education and open learning.

Getting more people to understand and use open resources as a basis for improving the quality and accessibility of education resources.
